Exploring, Discovering, and Caring for Our World
At Specialists’ Junior School, Science and Environmental Studies inspire learners to observe, question, experiment, and understand the world around them.
Our classrooms are laboratories of curiosity — where learners discover how things work, why they change, and how people and nature can live in balance.
- 1. Learn by Doing
- 2. Link Science to Everyday Life
- 3. Develop Environmental Awareness
highlighting discovery, curiosity, and sustainability
Our Teaching Philosophy
We believe that nurturing scientific thinking early builds lifelong problem-solvers and environmentally conscious citizens who can shape a better Zimbabwe and a better world. Learners are continuously assessed through class experiments, practical tasks, and written tests that mirror the ZIMSEC exam format.
Children don’t just read about science — they do science.
Hands-on activities and simple experiments help learners connect theory with experience, developing observation, prediction, and reasoning skills.
Every lesson connects to the learner’s world — from food and farming to electricity, weather, and health.
Learners see how science explains daily experiences and improves quality of life.
We teach respect for nature and sustainable living. Learners explore:
Local plants and animal life
Water conservation
Waste management and recycling
Clean energy and pollution control
Climate and weather patterns
Through fieldwork and school projects, pupils learn to protect their environment and make responsible choices.
Practical Learning at Specialists’ Junior School
Each practical task builds patience, responsibility, and confidence — showing learners that science is not about memorizing facts, but about discovering how the world works through shared exploration.
Through guided group work and reflection, pupils learn that every idea matters, every observation counts, and that progress often comes from collaboration, not competition.
- Science Projects & Fairs: learners design and present investigations.
- Nature Walks & Garden Lessons: studying soil, insects, and plant growth first-hand.
- Recycling Initiatives: hands-on environmental stewardship.
- STEM Integration: introducing simple coding and ICT tools for data recording and presentations.
- Guest Talks: health professionals and environmental officers share real-world insights.
Our Goal
Our goal is to develop learners who are curious, observant, and logical thinkers, capable of understanding the relationship between people and the environment. We aim to help every child apply scientific knowledge to solve everyday problems and to prepare them thoroughly for ZIMSEC Grade 7 Science and future opportunities in STEM.
